Hurricane
Dean Update - We Are Preparing
|
|
Friends,
As Hurricane Dean moves toward the Gulf of Mexico, Texas
State Operations Center continues to operate at Level
One which is Emergency Conditions. Governor Perry
has directed the full activation of state response capability
which includes Texas Military Forces, Texas Parks and
Wildlife Department, Rescue Crews, the State Shelter
Hub and Host Shelter system, etc.
In terms of Mass Care and Sheltering, the American Red Cross
has a leadership team in Austin; they are prepared to deploy
paid and volunteer staff as needed to affected areas to support
a catastrophic response to landfall of Hurricane Dean.
At this point in time, different communities are in different
stages of preparation. The American Red Cross is holding
trainings today in San Antonio and Austin. For folks in
the Austin area who are available to volunteer through the American
Red Cross, please note the following information from Kim Landry,
Volunteer Services Director, American Red Cross of Central Texas. Her
contact information is included and you may contact her directly.
TIDR will send out another update, as it is called for, on Monday. Please
do not hesitate to contact me with either information to share
or questions/concerns that you may have. I thank all of
you in advance for your great willingness to be ready
to respond when and if sheltering is called for as we
all watch the path of Hurricane Dean.
Peace,
Amy
Amy BeVille Elder, M.Div.
Executive Director
Note: There is a possibility that volunteers will be needed
to assist in a Special Needs Shelter in Gonzales. If you
have skills for this work and are able to travel Gonzales to
work 8 hour shifts, please contact TIDR.
